Pulsatilla vulgaris is a purple-flowered pasque flower that blooms as the foliage begins to form. Flowers are solitary, erect-to-nodding and open-bell-shaped. Flowers are followed by equally-ornamental, plume-like seedheads (reminiscent of some clematis) in fluffy spherical clusters.
